UEGCL’s CSR Visit to UMEA Primary School in Kiwanga: Empowering Education and Community Development
In a strong demonstration of UEGCL’s commitment to community development, the Acting Head of Communication and Corporate Affairs (Ag. HCCA) and the Generation Manager of the Namanve Thermal Power Plant (NTPP) fulfilled the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited’s (UEGCL) pledge to support Kiwanga UMEA Primary School. We donated a substantial amount of cement intended for the construction of a perimeter wall around the school, aiming to enhance safety and security for students and staff.
The donation was formally received in a heartfelt ceremony by the Chairperson and members of the Kiwanga Kasokoso Affected Persons Steering Committee, in the presence of school administrators and enthusiastic students. This generous contribution signifies a pivotal step in UEGCL’s ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure within the regions it operates.
During the handover, the Headmaster of Kiwanga UMEA Primary School expressed deep gratitude to UEGCL’s management, assuring them that the cement would be put to effective use for its intended purpose. The visibly excited students also shared their appreciation for this support, emphasizing its importance in providing a safe environment for extracurricular activities and preventing unauthorized access to the school grounds.
In addition to celebrating the donation, students took pride in sharing their recent academic achievements. They highlighted the remarkable performance of top achievers in the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), who received distinctions in crucial subjects such as Mathematics and Science. This academic success was partially attributed to the educational materials previously provided by UEGCL, emphasizing the positive impact of such initiatives on their learning outcomes.
The Generation Manager praised the school’s commitment to academic excellence and reaffirmed UEGCL’s dedication to continued collaboration with the local community, aiming to bolster educational standards. Meanwhile, the Ag. HCCA urged the school administration to ensure that the cement is used as intended and to maintain a fruitful partnership with the power plant.
This initiative illustrates UEGCL’s unwavering dedication to corporate social responsibility.
