Nyagak III Power Dam construction nears completion
Overview
The Nyagak III Hydropower Plant in Uganda, with a capacity of 6.6 MW, has been officially commissioned, marking a key addition to the country’s energy infrastructure. Located on the Nyagak River in Zombo District, North-Western Uganda, the project was developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and commissioned on August 1, 2025, by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development.
The plant aims to enhance electricity supply in the West Nile region and contribute to Uganda’s overall energy generation capacity. With a total investment of approximately USD 20 million, Nyagak III demonstrates the growing role of smaller-scale renewable energy projects in supporting reliable and sustainable power for communities and the national grid.
