Overview

The Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) Annual Report 2019 highlights the company’s performance, achievements, and strategic direction for the year ended June 2019. UEGCL’s mandate is to develop, operate, and maintain electricity generation facilities while promoting research and development in the power generation sector.

The company operates the 380MW Nalubaale-Kiira Hydropower Complex and the 183MW Isimba Hydropower Station, while also overseeing the development of the 600MW Karuma Hydropower Project and other renewable energy initiatives. UEGCL’s vision is to become one of the leading power producers in the Great Lakes Region, with a mission to sustainably generate reliable, quality, and affordable electricity for socio-economic development.

During the reporting period, UEGCL recorded strong financial performance, generating revenue of UGX 61.6 billion, profit before tax of UGX 24.8 billion, total assets of UGX 6.7 trillion, and equity of UGX 854 billion. The company continued to focus on operational excellence, sustainability, safety, innovation, stakeholder engagement, and workforce development.

Key strategic priorities included achieving high plant reliability and availability, expanding installed generation capacity, enhancing stakeholder satisfaction, and strengthening asset management and business sustainability. Through its investments in hydropower and renewable energy projects, UEGCL continues to play a critical role in supporting Uganda’s economic growth and energy security.
