Board visits Isimba
Overview
The Board of Directors of Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) visited the Isimba Hydropower Project (183MW) to assess construction progress and provide strategic guidance.
Construction, which began on 30th April 2015, is at 22 months of the 40-month schedule, with physical works at 76% completion and general concreting at 88% as of February 2017. The project, valued at approximately USD 568 million, has seen 40% of payments disbursed to the EPC contractor, China International Water and Electric Corporation.
UEGCL Board Chairperson, Eng. Proscovia Margaret Njuki, noted the progress while highlighting areas requiring urgent attention, including specialized expertise on site and adherence to repair methods. The project is scheduled for commissioning in 2018, contributing to Uganda’s growing hydropower capacity alongside Karuma HPP (600MW) and other upcoming projects.
