UEGCL takes over from ESKOM to Retain all Staff
Overview
Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) has officially taken over the operation and maintenance of the Nalubaale and Kiira power stations from Eskom Uganda Limited (EUL). The takeover, following the expiration of Eskom’s management agreement on March 31, 2023, aims to reduce power tariffs for both industrial and domestic consumers.
All existing staff from Eskom Uganda will be retained under UEGCL management, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity of operations. This strategic move is part of Uganda’s broader efforts to provide reliable, affordable electricity and strengthen national power generation capacity.
