UEGCL GeNews – 15th Edition
Overview
The 15th edition of GeNews, the official newsletter of the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL), celebrates the company’s 25th anniversary under the theme “UEGCL at 25: The Journey That Transformed the Nation.” Published in 2026, the issue marks the period from 2001 to 2026 under the company’s motto, Generating for Generations.
UEGCL was incorporated in 2001 to take over the generation activities of the former Uganda Electricity Board, together with the related assets and liabilities. It began with the Nalubaale (180MW) and Kiira (200MW) hydropower plants in Jinja, and its portfolio has since grown to include the 600MW Karuma and 183MW Isimba hydropower plants, the 50MW Namanve thermal plant and the 6.6MW Nyagak III plant. The cover’s collage of dams, spillways and power stations reflects this growth from a handful of inherited assets into a national generation portfolio.
