The Project Steering Committee (PSC) for the Karuma and Isimba Hydropower Projects today conducted a routine oversight visit to the 600 MW Karuma Hydropower Plant as part of its mandate to monitor the performance of Uganda’s flagship hydropower projects.
During the visit, the Committee reviewed the plant’s performance during the Defects Liability Period, assessed the progress of rectification works being undertaken by the contractor, and received updates from the UEGCL team on the operational status and overall performance of the facility.
The engagement also included a site tour of key plant areas, including the intake, control room, and weed dumping site, providing members with firsthand insight into ongoing operations and maintenance activities.
The visit was attended by senior representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited, the Solicitor General’s Office, the Owner’s Engineer, Sinohydro Corporation, and Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited senior management, led by the Chief Projects Officer.
