The Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Natural Resources conducted a follow-up visit to the Isimba Hydropower Plant (183 MW) to address ongoing concerns at the plant
Led by Committee Chairperson, Hon. Herbert Edmund Ariko, the delegation met with Minister of State for Energy, Hon. Sidronius Okaasai Opolot, and UEGCL officials, including the Chairperson Project Steering Committee, Dr. Eng. Badru M Kiggundu and the UEGCL CEO Dr. Eng. Harrison Mutikanga
The committee aimed to receive updates on three key issues:
– River Diversion and Spillway Inspection: Ensuring the river diversion is undertaken to facilitate a thorough inspection of the spillway under safe working conditions.
– Master Completion Schedule: Finalizing a detailed schedule outlining activities and actions required to complete outstanding works.
– Comprehensive All Risk Insurance: Obtaining insurance coverage in accordance with the project’s EPPCC (Employer’s Project Procurement Control Committee) requirements.
These issues are critical to addressing the plant’s operational challenges and ensuring the safety and integrity of the dam. The visit demonstrates the committee’s commitment to finding lasting solutions to the problems facing the Isimba Hydropower Plant.
