UEGCL is proud to have participated in the Uganda Power and Energy Sector Forum 2026, organised by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Makerere University Branch.
Held under the theme “Preparing the Next Generation of Engineers for Uganda’s Energy Value Chain,” the Forum brought together a vibrant mix of engineering students, young professionals, academia, and key stakeholders from across Uganda’s power sector. The engagement created a dynamic platform for dialogue, learning, and collaboration, aimed at bridging the gap between academic training and industry expectations.
Throughout the Forum, participants explored emerging developments shaping the future of the energy sector, including the increasing integration of renewable energy solutions, digitalisation of power systems, and the global shift towards sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure. Conversations also highlighted the evolving competencies required of engineers, emphasising not only strong technical expertise but also adaptability, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
A key highlight of the discussions was the exploration of career pathways across the entire energy value chain, from generation and transmission to distribution and regulation. UEGCL shared practical insights into the operations of large-scale power generation, the skills required to manage complex energy projects, and the opportunities available for young engineers to contribute meaningfully to national development. The interaction provided students and early career professionals with a clearer understanding of the industry landscape and the diverse roles within it.
UEGCL’s participation further underscored its commitment to supporting capacity building and knowledge transfer within the sector. By actively engaging with academia and professional bodies, UEGCL continues to play a vital role in mentoring the next generation of engineers and fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
The Forum also reinforced the importance of strong partnerships between industry and educational institutions in shaping a workforce that is well-equipped to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving energy sector. Initiatives such as this are instrumental in inspiring innovation, strengthening technical competence, and aligning academic curricula with real-world industry needs.
