Today, UEGCL convened a strategic meeting with the 183 MW Isimba HPP contractor, the Owner’s Engineer, and Prof Mark Alexander from the University of Cape Town to review progress on the emergency spillway repair works and agree on the next course of action.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the project stakeholders to review findings from recent inspections, evaluate the status of ongoing interventions, and discuss both immediate and long-term measures aimed at safeguarding the structural integrity and operational reliability of the facility.
During the engagement, UEGCL’s CEO, Eng. Dr Harrison E. Mutikanga emphasised the urgency of executing both the emergency underwater repairs and the emergency spillway channel works in parallel, noting that recent underwater inspections had identified additional erosion on the upstream side of the spillway.
