UEGCL shines at the 2023 SDG Run
The Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) has received a Certificate of Recognition for being a Gold sponsor of this year’s Sustainable Development Goals – SDG run. This was during the 5th edition of the run on 29th October 2023 at Kololo Independence Grounds.
Mr Enock Kusasira, the Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs, received the certificate on behalf of the company.
Despite the early morning showers, hundreds of avid runners turned up to witness the ceremonial flagging off by the 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.
Organized by Youth Go Green Uganda, under the theme; Run for Energy access, the run attracted corporates and students from various learning institutions. The national army, UPDF, was also ably represented.
Addressing the runners, the Minister of State for Mineral Development, Hon. Peter Lokeris, reiterated the government’s commitment to access affordable energy through various projects such as the ongoing Karuma hydropower project.
Proceeds from this year’s run will facilitate the installation of a solar-powered system for Buliisa Health Center IV in Buliisa district.
The SDG run is an annual event demonstrating Uganda’s commitment to achieving the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
