Today, the Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs, Mr. Enock Kusasira, handed over life jackets under Phase II of the UEGCL Life Jacket Initiative to fishing communities in Kiryandongo and Oyam Districts, host to the 600 MW Karuma Hydropower Plant.
The handover was witnessed by the Kiryandongo Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Dan Muganga, who appreciated UEGCL for the initiative and urged fishermen to prioritise their safety by wearing the life jackets whenever they are on the water.
The initiative is part of UEGCL’s broader efforts to promote water safety and protect lives within communities living and working around its hydropower installations. By equipping fishermen with life jackets and reinforcing safety awareness, the campaign encourages communities to adopt safer practices while continuing to pursue their livelihoods.
Implemented in partnership with local leaders, the campaign underscores UEGCL’s commitment to promoting safer livelihoods, strengthening community wellbeing and fostering responsible engagement with communities around its areas of operation.
