Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited participated in the 11th Africa Energy Market Place and Policy Dialogue for Uganda, organised by the African Development Bank, bringing together key energy sector stakeholders to discuss strategies for strengthening Uganda’s electricity sector.

The dialogue focused on financing mechanisms and delivery strategies to expand reliable electricity supply, maintain competitive electricity system costs and strengthen transmission infrastructure to ensure efficient power delivery to emerging and growing demand centres.

During the panel discussions, UEGCL Board Member, Eng. Julius Wamala, highlighted ongoing revisions to Uganda’s energy policies aimed at creating a more conducive environment for private-sector investment in electricity generation, while strengthening the country’s energy security.

UEGCL’s Chief Projects Officer, Eng. Isaac Arinaitwe, emphasised the importance of de-risking infrastructure projects to reduce the cost of capital, enhance project bankability and attract investment. He further underscored the need to balance investment attractiveness with long-term financial sustainability to ensure the successful delivery and operation of energy infrastructure projects.

UEGCL’s participation underscores the Company’s contribution to national and regional energy sector dialogue, particularly on policies and financing frameworks that support sustainable infrastructure development, increased generation capacity and reliable electricity supply.
