Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) participated in the Power & Elec Uganda International Expo 2026, joining key stakeholders from government, the private sector, development partners and the energy industry to discuss the future of Uganda’s power sector and the investments required to meet the country’s growing energy needs. The expo provided a platform for meaningful dialogue on the role of energy in driving national development, industrialisation and economic transformation.
Speaking during the official opening, the Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Phiona Nyamutoro, underscored the transformative role of energy in national development, noting that “Energy is not just infrastructure, it transforms lives.” She emphasised that expanding access to reliable electricity is fundamental to accelerating industrialisation, stimulating economic growth, and achieving Uganda’s Vision 2040.
On the second day of the expo, discussions focused on unlocking financing for critical energy infrastructure to support Uganda’s rapidly growing electricity demand. During a panel discussion, UEGCL Board Member Eng. Julius Wamala highlighted the importance of mobilising climate finance and strategic investment to expand energy access, strengthen the national electricity grid, promote clean cooking solutions, and accelerate renewable energy development.
As Uganda continues to pursue a resilient and sustainable energy future, UEGCL remains committed to generating reliable electricity while supporting strategic partnerships, investments and policy conversations that strengthen the country’s power sector and contribute to sustainable socio-economic development.
