Today at Naguru Skyz Hotel, UEGCL top management gathered for a Safety Workshop reaffirming the company’s commitment to workplace safety as a core organisational value.
The event was hosted by Mr. Enock Kusasira, Head of Communication & Corporate Affairs, and Dr Eng. Mary Akurut, Chief Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality Officer. The workshop launched with introductory presentations by Mr. Darren Mukwanason and Miss Orishaba Harriet.
In his opening remarks, Chief Executive Officer Dr Eng. Harrison E. Mutikanga passionately conveyed that safety is not merely a compliance requirement but a value deeply embedded in UEGCL’s identity. He commended Nalubaale-Kiira Hydro Power Station for its strong safety culture, citing consistent enforcement of protocols and disciplinary accountability as a commendable standard, and called for enhanced coordination with UETCL.
An informative presentation was delivered by Ms Elsabe Jean Van Biljon of Hariss International, whose extensive experience made for a truly impactful session.
Anchored by the tagline “Safety, Home, Every day,” she drew on three decades of organisational growth to challenge attendees to ask questions, uphold accountability, and design programs grounded in operational reality. She also outlined the primary causes of safety incidents and left attendees with a powerful message that safety is the DNA of operational excellence and a cornerstone of effective leadership.
